"enthusiastic"
Melissa Lane, senior writer, brings a decade of writing and communications strategy experience to her role at ClearEdge. With an even understanding of journalism, PR and marketing, she melds insights from each to craft clear, compelling messages for our clients.
Melissa started her career in Chicago in 2000, writing and editing for various publications, before working as Music and Dining editor for AOL-Time Warner’s Digital City. Moving to San Francisco in 2002 to oversee content for their Portland site, she gained a firm grasp of online media early on.
After five years of working as a columnist, contributor and editor for various weekly papers and magazines, Melissa began freelancing for different advertising agencies. The transition was natural, and her work earned industry recognition within the first year. “The principles of communication are the same in any context. Understand your audience and speak directly to them. There are nuances with each medium, but ultimately it is about distilling a message to its essence.”
For the past four years, Melissa has written for leading technology firms and well-known consumer brands in industries ranging from financial services to health care and higher education. What has always remained constant is her passion for precision and bottomless enthusiasm for learning.
Melissa graduated at the top of her class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Women’s Studies. She has since lived in New York City, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Chicago, where she currently resides. Outside of work, she enjoys running, yoga and volunteering at 826CHI, a neighborhood writing center for children.
